TAPPSA is proud to be hosting their 2010 National Conference and Exhibition in the Kingdom of the Zulu at the meeting place of Distinction the Southern Sun Elangeni Hotel which is situated on Durban’s Golden Mile beachfront with breathtaking views of the warm Indian Ocean.

Durban – named eThekwini by the Zulu – is an exciting, multi-cultural city where East meets West meets Africa in a colourful and unique mix. Influences from Asia, Europe and Africa have created a cityscape that buzzes with sights and sounds of these different cultures and a vibe that lives up to its branding as South Africa’s playground.


The Southern Sun Elangeni Hotel

Business and leisure travelers will enjoy fine service and hospitality at one of Durban's premier hotels. The light, spacious lobby is the focal point where friendly and efficient staff provide a warm welcome.

All 449 air-conditioned rooms are well furnished and offer every amenity. There are also family rooms, executive rooms and a magnificent Presidential Suite which offers unsurpassed luxury.

The hotel has three superb cosmopolitan restaurants which provide a choice of cuisine from authentic Japanese to ethnic Indian. Two bars offer light snacks and a range of South African wines. There are two outdoor pools, a relaxing Chill Area and a Fitness Centre. As well as these, a variety of sporting activities can be arranged. Flea markets, amusement parks and other opportunities for fun, are all within walking distance.

The hotel is provisionally holding 50 standard rooms for the nights of the 18th and 19th October 2010 for all delegates and speakers attending the conference. Should you wish to book a room please indicate this on your registration form on this website. Please specify which nights you will need the accommodation for.

Kindly note that the Hotel cannot guarantee sea facing rooms as the hotel consists of both sea facing and non-sea facing rooms. Bedrooms will be allocated on a first come first serve basis and this will be done by the hotel’s reservation department and not by the conference organisers.

The hospitality and exceptional conference rooms make the Southern Sun Elangeni a popular choice for conferences and exhibitions. The dedicated conference centre is situated on the 1st floor of the hotel with numerous conference room configurations for gala dinners, exhibitions, large international conferences and smaller intimate meetings. The conference sessions will take place in the Great Ilanga with the Exhibition stands in suits 1 - 5.

Should you require a transfer from Durban International Airport please indicate this on your registration form and this will be organised for you at an additional fee, this will be added to your room account which must be settled prior to departure.

R 1 445.00 per single room per night includes:

R 1 585.00 per sharing room per night includes: 

  • Bed & Breakfast, VAT and Tourism levy for 2 sharing delegates per night in a twin or double bedded room

Climate
Durban enjoys a subtropical climate, with very hot, humid summers and mild to warm winters. Rain is frequent during the summer months, but comes in the form of thunderstorms in the afternoons, so the sunny holiday weather is not badly affected.

Directions
From King Shaka Durban International Airport: Take the N2 towards Durban/South Coast. Continue along the N2 until you reach the Gateway/M41 exit take this offramp and at the robots turn left towards Gateway and the beach. Go straight along this road (M41) and it will curve back on itself and join with the M4 going towards Durban. Continue on this road all the way until you reach the first set of robots, at the robots turn left into Argyle and travel to the first set of robots. At these robots turn right into Slyvestor Ntuli Road (was Brickhill Road) and at the next set of robots turn left into Somtseu road
and then first right at the robots into Playfair Road. This road will take you to the back entrance of the Elangeni Hotel, which will be on your left.
